Blog Task 8 - Genre and Teen Drama definitions/examples

Genre: a 'category' or 'type', an issue within film discussions, as it helps to organise and group together different films in terms of their content and plot (what they're about), and what they look like.

Genres helps producers to make their films and market them to audiences, providing a specific name for certain types of films, allowing the audience to decide which they like most and why, along with what genre of film they'd typically prefer to see. This establishes a general target audience for each genre of film.

Theorist Altman says we can talk about film genre in two ways:
Semantic: the way films look.
Syntactic: the stories the films tell.
